Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning

Over the last year, the London Fire Brigade has faced intense scrutiny over its culture; one in which misogyny and discrimination are still pervasive. His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services’ worrying report on this was followed by an even more damning report by Nazir Afzal in late November 2022. Hina is committed to keep challenging the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioner over these findings and will be watching very closely to evaluate any improvements or lack thereof this year.

"London’s emergency services must reflect the values of Londoners and this culture must be tackled as a priority to retain public trust."

Since she was elected Hina has been persistent in raising public awareness on the safety issues around lithium-ion batteries used in E-bikes and E-scooters. Though most batteries are perfectly safe - the public needs to be made aware of the dangers surrounding disreputable manufacturers and cheap online vendors. Electric vehicles have an important role to play in London’s green future, but it is important to ensure Londoners’ safety in order to overcome any roadblocks to their uptake. Hina was pleased to see her work on this issue resulted in the London Fire Brigade start a public awareness campaign #ChargeSafe.
